SLITTING AND DRIFTING A HOLE

[ Clayton Knot, Slitting and drifting ]

Hans begins this demonstration by explaining the
purpose and design of each tool.

These tools are designed to measure, slit and drift.

Brian measures, then slits, the first hole on one end of the bar.

Once the hole is slit, he opens it with a drift, expanding
the hole, and flaring the sides.

Using a tool designed by Hans, the position of the second hole is
measured from the first hole so that each piece will be exact.

Slit and drifted square holes with beautifully flared sides.
